Overview

The FB rating system is the European standard for classifying bullet resistant doors according to EN 1522. Each class is tested against a specified weapon type, calibre, and velocity. TDS supplies certified doorsets from FB4 to FB7.

*AK47 is an additional test class (7.62×39), not part of the numbered FB1–FB7 sequence. Matching BR glass classes under EN 1063 use the same calibres as the corresponding FB class.

Testing Requirements

Each FB rating requires specific testing procedures:

  • Multiple shots at different points on the door
  • Testing at specified distances
  • Verification of no penetration
  • Assessment of spall (fragmentation)
  • Testing of door frame and hardware
  • Verification of door operation after testing

Additional Classifications

Spall Protection

  • SP1: Basic spall protection
  • SP2: Enhanced spall protection
  • SP3: Maximum spall protection

Edge Protection

Selection Guidelines

Consider these factors when selecting an FB rating:

  • Risk Assessment: Evaluate potential threats
  • Location: Consider geographical risk factors
  • Building Type: Match protection to facility security needs
  • Budget: Higher ratings increase costs significantly
  • Maintenance: Higher ratings may require more maintenance
  • Weight: Higher ratings increase door weight
